Turkey wings are very cheap and can feed many people. The wings can be made as an easy dinner or weeknight lunch. Prepare them instead of turkey breast on vacation and surprise your family and guests with new flavors. The recipe is simple and can be easily prepared by a novice cook.

How to Make Curried Turkey Wings

First you need some good fresh turkey wings. They are usually sold in packs of 4 and can easily feed 4 people. If your turkey wings are frozen, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator or on the counter for a few hours.

Wash them and remove their feathers. Pat dry with kitchen paper. Top up with the spice mixture and leave to rest for 10 minutes (optional).

brown and stew

Meanwhile chop the celery and onion. You don't have to cut them very finely, but make sure the pieces aren't too big. Add the oil to the pan (I used a cast iron skillet) and heat over medium-high heat.

Add the seasoned turkey wings and sear on one side for a few minutes.Do not burn yourself! We just need to add a little color. Flip the wings and add the chopped veggies, arrange around the turkey. Simmer for a few more minutes, stirring the vegetables occasionally.

In the meantime, preheat the oven. When the wings are golden brown and slightly soaked, cover the cast iron skillet with aluminum foil and place in the oven.

If you don't have an ovenproof skillet, place the turkey and vegetables in the skillet, add water, cover with foil, and place in the oven. The temperature I used is not very high, only 350 degrees. This will ensure the wings are fully cooked and very tender. Cook for about 1 hour. Increase cooking time if wings are not cut into sections.

indoor temperature

Like any other species of bird, a turkey is fully cooked when its internal temperature is reachedat least 165 degrees. If it's much higher, don't worry, the wings have a significant amount of fat and are very difficult to dry out. The same goes for thighs and hamstrings. Do not overcook the turkey breast. The turkey breast takes less time to cook, and if you overcook it, it will become tough, dry, and tough.
